BOOK REVIEW: THE VERSIONS OF US - LAURA BARNETT

12.6.16

Blurb:
" Eva and Jim are nineteen, and students at Cambridge, when their paths first cross in 1958. Jim is walking along a lane when a woman approaching him on a bicycle swerves to avoid a dog. What happens next will determine the rest of their lives..."

My Thoughts:
Firstly going into this book I didn't expect it to have three different versions of the same story but slightly different dependant on the characters decisions. While I like this concept, I do find it slightly confusing especially trying to remember what happened in a version after reading about another. I think that maybe they could have had 3 parts which was told one of the three versions. As it would be less confusing.

However I throughly enjoyed the book and found myself wanting to know what happened when every chapter ended. I found myself warming to the characters a lot and at one point I'm pretty sure I nearly cried at one scene in particular.

I love that the book expands over a number of years from 1958 to 2014 which is great as it shows the characters to their fullest and throughout their whole lives.
