After craving a crunchie for a long while and then watching professional chefs butcher cinder toffee on master chef, my boyfriend proclaimed that he could make it as it was super easy and that was what we did on an evening. And they turned out amazingly (so great we considered selling them for a business.) I thought I would however share with you the simple recipe.

Ingredients you will need:

Honey or Golden Syrup
Bicarbonate of soda
Chocolate (milk, dark, white chocolate)

Utensils you need:

Baking Tray lined with Greaseproof Paper
Wooden Spoon

1. Firstly you need to pour around 1cm of the sugar into a saucepan and slowly heat until it turns to a golden liquid. Do not mix the sugar with a spoon as this will ruin the mixture. Slowly add around a tablespoon of the honey or golden syrup.

2. Add 1 and a half teaspoons of the bicarbonate of soda and stir quickly with a wooden spoon. You will notice that the mixture will expand and become a mass of bubbles.

3. Rapidly pour this foaming mixture onto a tray which is lined with greaseproof paper and leave to set.

4. While the cinder toffee is setting you can melt the chocolate if you would like chocolate. You can melt chocolate either in the microwave in 30s intervals or in a bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.

5. When the cinder toffee is completely set, take it off the greaseproof paper and gently tap with the wooden spoon until you get different shards however big or small you would like.

6. Now decorate with the chocolate!. I dipped some of mine half in the chocolate and with others i fully immersed them so they would be like a proper crunchie.
