MAKEUP STARTER KIT: THE ESSENTIALS

21.4.15

Hey guys,
Today I thought I would do a makeup starter post. I can't remember when I first got into makeup but I'm pretty sure that by todays standards I was a late comer and it was around Year 9 or Year 10. I don't think someone needs a lot of makeup when just starting so lets get on with it.

Foundation
I don't think that when starting off you really need a foundation. Before even looking at foundations I would consider a BB Cream such as the Collection Secrets BB Cream which also has added SPF15 which is great as it means you will be protected from the sun. There is also the Miss Sporty BB Cream Nude Radiance which also comes matte and is a cheaper alternative.

If you are wanting a foundation, I would look at the lower coverages such as the Collection Lasting Perfection which does a whole range of things and the one I used to use a lot. There is also the Miss Sporty So Energetic foundation for a low price or a big favourite in the blogging community is the Rimmel Wake Me Up

I would say the tip with foundation is to get the perfect shade. Go and ask to be matched. I found getting matched by No7 was really helpful in knowing the shade I was in the majority of foundations. You can go a shade darker but just make sure you blend blend blend.

Concealer
For concealer I would recommend the most loved Collection Lasting Perfection which I find perfect for brightening the under eyes. If you have blemishes then I would truly recommend the SEVENTEEN Phwoarr Paint which is a more heavier concealer however can be worn by itself if you wouldn't want to wear foundation.

Powder
For powder I would really recommend the Natural Collection Loose Powder for a cheap first powder. It's lovely and doesn't make my makeup look cakey. However if you want a pressed powder then I would say try the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder which is AMAZING. Honest. For cheaper alternatives there is the Seventeen Pressed Powder.

Blusher
I would say that if you use foundation then you may want to put a little colour back in your cheeks. When I first started out I had really natural tones which looked like actual blushed cheeks. I would personally start out with powder blush as I find then easier to apply. I love the Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks range especially the shade 'Peach Melba' and 'Pink Cloud'. Another powder blush is the Miss Sporty Ohh Blushed Again Blusher which is a two tone blush. There is also the MUA Blushers that are a staggering £1. Yes that is right.

If you do fancy going to cream blushers then the MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Blushes are fab and blend so easily. You could also try the NYC Cream to Powder Blush.

Mascara
This is dependent on what you really want a mascara to do so I will just list a few cheap but wonderful ones that I think are tip top.

  1. SEVENTEEN Peep Show
  2. Collection Does It All
  3. Natural Collection Water Guard
  4. NYC Showtime Volumising
  5. 2True Instant Length
  6. MUA Extreme Curl
  7. NYC Big Bold

Eyeshadow
I would totally start out with a neutral palette which would be a great investment for experimenting. I love the MUA Romantic Efflorescene which has a range of neutrals and plum shades. I would also recommend the Collection Work The Colour which has numbers to show the order of the eyeshadow and tells you how to apply for a good look, however you could always just do your own thing. Another one is the Collection Eyes Uncovered which reminds me of a dupe for Urban Decays naked basics.

Brows
For the brows you could totally just start with a clear mascara or coloured mascara to brush your eyebrows for a hint of colour. I think the SLEEK MakeUP Brow Perfector is a great price!. However for kits you should totally buy the MUA Brow Kit as it is a great price and worth the money. There is also the Collection Work The Colour Eyebrow Kit which I used to have and love! Also there is the Barry M Brow Kit which looks like a nice small compact kit.

Lipstick/Lip Gloss
For lipsticks and lip glosses there is a whole range. It depends on what you fancy so I decided to link you to some great pigmented affordable lipsticks and lips glosses.

  1. Collection Volume Sensation
  2. Natural Collection Sheer Natural
  3. Seventeen Lip Crayon
  4. Natural Collection Moisture Shine
  5. Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream
I hope this helps you and even if you already wear makeup maybe it's shown you some brands you wouldn't think of trying.
