READING HABITS TAG

14.8.14

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I usually read on my bed in various positions. I find my bed to be the comfiest place at home to read and also means I won't have my mum interrupting me when I'm trying to read.

2. Bookmark or a random piece of paper?
Bookmark for sure!. I love bookmarks but not the magnetic ones. I've tried random bits of paper but I'd forget they were a bookmark and throw them away or lose them quickly.

3. Can you stop reading anytime you want or do you have to stop at a certain page, chapter, part, etc?
I usually and prefer to stop at the end of a chapter because it's easier to know where to start. I have stopped in anyplace but it usually takes me a while to find where I left it. I'll usually only stop in the middle of a page or on a sentence if I'm busy or late somewhere and I don't have the chance to get to the end of the chapter.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
I drink while reading but I don't eat that much because I really don't want greasy hands on the pages or crumbs in the book. Drinking doesn't really bother me as much.

5. Can you read while listening to music/watching tv?
Yep! I prefer to have something on while I'm reading because it's just nice and feels homely to me. Saying that if I have the tv one it has to be something which won't be as interesting because then I just won't read. Music wise doesn't affect me but I just have it on a lower volume. I just can't concentrate on reading if someone is talking to me.

6. One book at a time, or several?
I try to read one book at a time because then I can fully immerse in that book. However at the moment I am going through the 'Song of ice and fire' series (which is hefty and slow process) and I find I have to have another book on the go. This is because in every chapter a lot happens and I feel I need to take a break. However i'm making my way through the first part of the third book and it's going great.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I can read anywhere! cars, trains, buses, airplanes, boats, home and wherever else. My mum actually banned me from reading books I had purchased that day in the car on the way home because I would have nearly finished it. On a holiday many years ago when I was smaller I read most of a massive book on the airplane.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
I always read silently because it just lets my imagination go free. Also reading out loud reminds me of primary school and I always used to (and still do) get told off for reading too fast that no one could understand me.

9. Do you read ahead or skip pages?
I only ever do this if I'm not enjoying a book and then I'll skip. If i enjoy a book then no because I don't want to spoil it for myself.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it new
I try to keep it new but I find it hard to enjoy reading it if I have to hold the book so close so then I break the spine. I don't do it often or to the point where the spine is unreadable. You'd have to look close to see they are. Also I have a lot of books that are secondhand so these have broken spines so I don't mind re-breaking the spine.

11. Do you write in books?
Nope! Never have and I don't plan to. If I have to highlight I will put a sticky tab on the sentence and re-read that and use it. I'm not fond of highlighting and writing in books personally and when I did in school, I used a pencil and then erased it.
