Okay so it might not be the prettiest of cakes but it did taste really nice. I like this recipe, I am a rubbish baker. I burn, i undercook, I sink cakes but I have finally found something which I am semi decent at and it's all thanks to this recipe that I am going to share with you.

Ingredients you will need

One mug that is fairly large.
4 tablespoons of self rising flour
4 tablespoons of caster sugar
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1 medium egg
3 tablespoons of milk
3 tablespoons of sunflower/vegetable oil
A couple of drops of flavouring. (I choose vanilla)
Optional 2 tablespoons of extras such as chocolate chips.

  • Add the flour, sugar and cocoa powder in your mug and mix well so that all dry ingredients are mixed thoroughly.
  • Add the egg to the dry ingredients and mix till it forms a lumpy mixture. (This doesn't have to be mixed well at this point, just so the egg is combined)
  • Add the milk, oil and flavouring of your choice and mix till the mixture is combined and there are no lumps.
  • If opting for the optional then add them to the mixture and mix a few times so that they are evenly mixed throughout the mixture.
  • Centre the mug in your microwave and cook on high for 2 and a half minutes and then 30 seconds afterwards (to ensure it's not overcooked) or watch it rise and once it's stopped and firm to the touch turn off the microwave.
There you have it! so simple isn't it. Would be so nice with whipped cream or ice cream on top or even a sauce!. I'm not a massive fan of chocolate cake but this is just the right size. Of course you could tweak the recipe for your own taste. I think this is great to whip up in a few minutes if you fancy a baked good. I do admit I think I overcooked mine a little but you live and learn and it was still delicious. Even my mum loved it which is great.
